Emeritus Professor Tim Mazzarol
Tim Mazzarol is an Emeritus Professor and Senior Honorary Research Fellow within the UWA Business School where he specialises in entrepreneurship, innovation, small business management, marketing and strategy. He is a Qualified Professional Market Researcher (QPMR) with the Australian Market and Social Research Society (AMSRS). In addition, Tim is an Affiliate Professor of the Burgundy School of Business, Group ESC Dijon, Bourgogne France. He is also the Coordinator of the UWA Co-operative Enterprise Research Unit (CERU), and Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Management and Innovation (CEMI).
Tim has been with UWA since 2001 and previously worked at Curtin University from 1994 to 2000. During that time, he was the Director of the Small Business Unit and a Research Fellow with the Institute for Research into International Competitiveness (IRIC). Prior to his academic career Tim was a high school teacher, a diplomatic officer within the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs, and a manager with National Mutual Ltd. Tim retired in December 2022 but continues to conduct research at UWA and coordinates a major Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage grant.
Tim's focus has been on helping small to medium enterprises via applied research and executive programs. He was the President of the Small Enterprise Association of Australia and New Zealand (SEAANZ) from 2012 to 2018, and remains actively engaged in executive education via the Australian Institute of Management. He is a founder of CSC Ltd., and served as Company Secretary from 2018 to 2024, serving two terms as a Director from 2018 to 2019, and from 2020 to 2024.
Over the course of his academic career he has published a wide range of books, book chapters, journal articles, conference papers and industry reports. He has 34 papers with more than 35 citations of which 15 have more than 100 and one with over 1,132 citations. Tim's research interests focus on the globalisation of higher education, word of mouth marketing, business strategy, commercialisation and innovation management, small business, co-operative and mutual enterprises, business model design and marketing.
In addition to his academic work Tim has been a shareholder and non-executive director of several small firms as well as a member of boards of non-profit organisations. He is actively involved in consulting to a range of organisations both large and small. In addition to his research and teaching within he is a sought-after speaker and industry trainer in the fields of strategic management, marketing and innovation.
